We all celebrate National Women\u2019s Day on 8th March in India.<\/b>
\n \n We share the story of Seema (Name Changed) and who was not celebrating National Women\u2019s day in March of 2018, but was struggling with uterine fibroids.
\nMillions of women nationwide suffer from uterine fibroids, especially middle age women, and we hope that Seema\u2019s story will inspire other Indian women suffering from uterine fibroids to seek relief. \n\n <\/p>\n\t

\u201cUterine fibroid embolization gave me back my life\u201d Said Seema<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t

For Seema, a teacher and a mother, living with heavy blood flow during her period was a way of life. Menstrual time period became the center of her life and consumed her thoughts, actions and even her sleep pattern.

\n\nDuring her period, Seema\u2019s life was constantly disrupted:<\/b>\n<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t

  • She would stay indoors with no desire to go out or be far from home. During vacations, her vacation would be ruined because all she would be thinking about was if she was going to have bleeding through layers of clothes.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t
  • She would go to the bathroom at least once an hour to change her tampon and pad. She had to wore tampon and sanitary pad for protection against leaks but she frequently bled through both layers.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t\t
  • She would dress only in dark-coloured clothing because if she accidentally bled through, the blood wouldn\u2019t be as noticeable on dark clothes.<\/li>\n
  • She woke herself up every hour and a half to change her tampon and pad because she was afraid that she would stain her bedding. She slept poorly due to the disruptions and was tired at work the next day.<\/li>\n\t\t\t\t<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

    \u201cMy mind was on my period every day, that\u2019s where my head was,\u201d said Seema.<\/b><\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t

    Other than the extremely heavy bleeding, Seema did not experience any pre-menstrual symptoms or any pain during her period. Her menstural cycle was approximately five days, falling within the normal time frame. Due to her heavy bleeding, her primary care physician was concerned about her low iron level and prescribed iron pills for her to take to counter a low blood count.<\/p>\n

    When she went to visit her gynaecologist for an examination, she was told that she had uterine fibroids. Because Seema did not have any pain or prolonged bleeding and did not pursue uterine fibroid treatment.<\/p>\n

    In March 2018, Seema\u2019s menstrual cycle took a turn for the worse. Her flow increased to an unbearable level, bleeding through layers of clothes and lasting nearly two weeks. To top it off, she endured two menstrual cycles in the same month. Distraught with having two periods in the same month with increased and prolonged bleeding, she went back to her gynaecologist seeking options. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\n\t\t\t

    Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE)<\/h3>\n\t\t\t

    With one child and no interest in having any more children, Seema inquired about a hysterectomy, desperate to end her heavy bleeding and take back control of her life. Her gynaecologist put her on a birth control regimen as a temporary solution to control the bleeding and recommended looking into Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), a non-surgical, minimally invasive treatment for uterine fibroids.     \nAn MRI revealed two huge fibroids and two medium-sized fibroids in Seema\u2019s uterus, and Dr. Sheorain explained that these fibroids were causing her heavy and prolonged bleeding. \n \n <\/p>\t

    Dr. Sheorain treated all four fibroids during a single UFE procedure<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t

    In March, 2018, Dr. Sheorain treated all four uterine fibroids during a single Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) procedure. Performed under mild sedation in a comfortable outpatient setting, Seema was able to go home the very next day and recover in the comfort of her home. In less than two weeks, Seema returned to work, fully recovered and back in control of her life.
